Chorus at Hopewell
About the Choral Programs
5th and 6th Grade Chorus are free and available to any student at Hopewell interested in singing in an ensemble setting. Both groups perform in our Winter and Spring concerts held at the Oxford Area High School. All groups focus on singing a wide variety of musical literature appropriate for a children's chorus. This includes music of a variety of backgrounds including gospel, multicultural, classical, pop, and traditional.
5th Grade Chorus meets during the school day on A days for 45 minutes. Students in this ensemble are working on singing with two part harmony, listening to and critiquing their singing for quality and accuracy, and bridging the gap between elementary and middle school repertoire. 6th Grade Chorus meets during the school day on C days for 45 minutes. Students in this group are advancing their skills through posture and breathing exercises, listening activities and adding in occasional three-part harmony. Choral Ensemble is an auditioned group that meets once a week outside of the school day. Students in this ensemble are selected based on their pitch accuracy, tone, aural skills and music reading abilities. These students work on music considered above the level of an average elementary school choral group and participate in several performances beyond the Winter and Spring concerts. While there is no fee to join, all selected members need to purchase one of the maroon Oxford Music polo shirts to wear with their khaki pants as part of our ensemble uniform. |
